Toni Malone’s burger concept called Soul Burgers
, is quickly becoming the talk of burger lovers all over LA. Soul food on a bun.

Toni’s love for cooking goes back about 25 years when she opened her first burger joint not far from her current location. But her love for music was too strong, she closed her restaurant and hit the road. Now, after all those years, she’s returned to Inglewood with her soul burger. But this time, instead of classic beef, she’s combined something that her son loved the most; turkey burgers and southern cooking.

And sure, it makes sense. Combine two comfort foods into something that sets so cal apart, soul food and hamburgers. Open for nearly a year, Soul Burgers features a selection of tender turkey burgers infused with southern soul cooking. Like the Luscious Yam Burger; a turkey patty layered with turkey bacon, egg, cheese, and special spicy sauce. Get it extreme and go for a turkey burger layered with turkey bacon, cheese, egg, greens, yams, dressing, and that special spicy sauce.

The soul food doesn’t stop at a turkey burger. Try the Heavenly Chop Burger with a seasoned lean pork chop topped with turkey bacon, egg, special spicy sauce, cheese, and your choice of greens or yams. They also have veggie, fish and fried chicken on a bun.

Their sweet potato fries, lightly fried, are sprinkled with just a dusting of sugar. They also feature a smattering of sides like mac-n-cheese and a selection of home made desserts. Keep on eye out for them on an upcoming episode of Food Network’s Outrageous Food, featuring their Outrageous Extreme Soul Burger.

GO Burger & Boozy Milkshakes

GO Burger
6290 Sunset Blvd (at Vine)
Los Angeles, CA 90028

http://www.goburger.net/

GO Burger, a bastion of burger innovation here to bring you spiked milkshakes and melted gruyère, opening Monday at the corner of Sunset and Vine.

It’s a bright, modern corner spot from the beef artisans behind BLT Steak, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto one of Hollywood’s busiest intersections―an easy spot for a quick work lunch, or a burger date before or after a movie at the ArcLight.

To start: you can’t not try the UltiMELT, a giant burger topped with bacon and caramelized onions, with two gruyère-on-rye grilled-cheese sandwiches for buns. Supplement it with Fried Dill Pickles or Duck-Fat Fries. Or even a salad (yes, they have them).

If you want your booze in a milkshake, try the Aztec Mocha (it’s tequila, coffee ice cream, chocolate syrup and cayenne pepper). But if you prefer your cocktail in cocktail form, go for the Brown Derby, made of rum, lime and maple syrup.

Stout

UD - Stout

Stout
1544 N. Cahuenga Blvd
(at Selma)
Hollywood
Los Angeles, CA 90028

Some things were just made to go together. Tending to the blissful union of burgers and beer is Stout, your new favorite late-night Cahuenga stop celebrating its grand opening 11/4/09.

Upon entering the strip-mall corner hideaway, the first thing you’ll notice is the giant beer wall made of hammered copper—a noble ode to the reason you came, thanks to ever-thoughtful designer Kris Keith (BoHo, Bar Delux). Grab a seat by the exposed brick (that’s anywhere), and start the hard part. The menu offers pairing suggestions for each of the 10 specialty burgers.

For the Six Weeker (with Camembert, fig chutney, mild jack, arugula, caramelized onions and smoked Gouda), they say a Belgian Trappist will hold its own against those cheeses. But if you go for the spicy Shu Burger (with pepper jack, light bell spread, grilled avocado and chipotle sauce), they suggest a soothing blonde ale.

Open until 4am.

26 Beach

Famous Craftsman Hamburgers on housemade buns = Burger Heaven.

Here are 3 of my favorites:

Bombay Burger – coconut curry sauce, mango chutney, lettuce & tomato.

P B & J – creamy Skippy’s peanut butter & Knott’s Berry strawberry jam. Yes, our version of a peanut butter & jelly, this is chef Francois’ favorite burger !  No lettuce or tomato on this one.

The Brunch Burger, served all day and often! – fried egg, thick applewood bacon & cheddar on top of a burger, with mayo, lettuce & tomato.

Umami Burger

2 new locations coming soon.2009_08_umami.png Umami Owner Adam Fleischman hopes to open location two in early September, but this time around the Umami Burger space will enlarge to three times the size of the original and serve an expanded bistro-style menu with oysters, steak, “green” fried-chicken, plus those burgers. Another spin will be the added Japanese beer bar that seats 20 called Salaryman (the Japanese term for a corporate drone) which will be attached to Umami but also have its own separate entrance. As for location three, its slated to take over a dining space at Fred Segal in Santa Monica and hopefully launch in November. As far as layout and food, expect Umami at Fred Segal to mimic the upcoming spot in East Hollywood with beer/wine and the expanded menu, but an added bonus for Westsiders will be an outdoor patio area and breakfast. Look out for the breakfast burger…just kidding, but maybe… [EaterWire]

Baby’s Badass Burger Truck
Dear LA, stop the food truck madness.  I get an email once a week with another version of food on wheels.  Food on Trucks is becoming as rampant as reality tv and tart yogurt joints. Now i see we’re combining softcore porn with our truck food.
Baby’s Badass Burgers -  http://www.babysbadassburgers.com/
Started by one of the founders of the upscale-restaurant-owning One Group (STK, OneSunset, etc), BBB’s a new, bright pink food truck dedicated solely to the mission of delivering “amazing burgers served by hot chicks” — no, seriously that’s their mission. All sandwiches are served as side-by-side sliders on Hawaiian sweetbread buns; high qual Angus beef burger options include the “Original Beauty” (Swiss/grilled onions/sauteed mushrooms/special sauce), the “Mamacita” (pepperjack/guac/ tomato/grilled onions) and the aged beef/St Andre cheese/black truffle “Cougar”. As far as the girls, the multi-ethnic actress/student/etc crew ranges from blondes to brunettes to redheads, all dressed semi-provocatively in tight shirts and jeans that they describe as “flirty”, but in reality it’s a little more like slutty. In addition to the slider-style burgers, BBB’s also got chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, and Philly-style cheesesteaks, as well as one full-sized half-pound burger called the “Man Eater”.  Spoken like a true slut, I mean, flirt.

Marked 5

Angelenos love two things—burgers and street food—so it was only a matter of time before someone combined the two. Enter Marked 5 and its rice-bun burgers.

This is no In-N-Out: Inspired by Japanese fast-food chains, the Marked 5 burger puts a new twist on the all-American staple, and it starts with the bun. The thin, square patties are hand-formed out of sticky long-grain rice (think: sushi rice without the vinegary sweetness) and crisped on a flat-top grill. They make a surprisingly sturdy vehicle for fried or grilled meats and fresh vegetables.

The tangy house special sauce called torraku, or “truck” sauce—what tastes like a mixture of teriyaki, barbecue and sriracha sauces—smothers almost all of the sandwiches. It adds a flavorful zing to the panko-fried katsu pork ($5), and makes a delicious umami marinade for the juicy Angus beef burger ($5) and the grilled tofu steak ($5). Only the katsu chicken ($5) is different; it comes doused in a mild yellow curry sauce.

You’ll find Marked 5, with its sizable supply of Pocky and brightly colored Japanese sodas, anywhere a lunch or late-night crowd congregates, from Abbot Kinney to Eagle Rock (follow along on Twitter, of course).
